MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of HATCH is to provide MENTORSHIP, EDUCATION, INSPIRATION, and RECOGNITION to the next generation of creative innovators.
Who or What are GROUNDBREAKERS?:
When we were deciding on a term to represent how we at HATCH feel about all of the young artists that submit their amazing work to us, we threw around a lot of different ideas. We talked about the impact of their work on the audience and how inspiring and inventive their ideas and completion of the work was.
We did not want to refer to them simply as "the students"; it felt as though we were understating the impact of their work since the submissions we received represented outstanding work from highly talented individuals. The pieces were innovative, bold, and original. Truly groundbreaking work.
And that's when we realized the term "Groundbreakers" was the obvious choice. I think that Jack Green, one of our wonderful Mentors from HATCH 2005, said it best:,
"I came up with the word innocent, the young filmmakers and their innocence, not knowing that they can't do it, so they do it"
So to all our past Groundbreakers and to all of you who will bring your groundbreaking work to HATCHfest in the future, THANK YOU for knowing that you can do it! We look forward to what you have to offer.
This indomitable, can-do attitude is the spirit of the Groundbreakers that HATCHfest works to recognize and promote. We do this by providing the mentorship, education, and encouragement young artists from all over the world need to keep producing work that is second to none.
In order to meet this goal, HATCHfest needs to evolve every year. This year we are proud to announce the addition of three new competitions to our list. These are*:
* Screenwriting
* Graphic Design/Motion Graphics
* Fashion Design
These join our two established competitions, which are still a significant part of the HATCHfest experience.
* Groundbreaker Filmmaking competition
* Gibson Guitar New Musician Award
