Ground Breaker - Royce Gorsuch
Born and raised an Oregonian, Royce has always immersed himself in the surrounding environment. Growing up in Oregon, he grew up skiing Mt. Bachelor, and rafting the Deschutes, and Rogue rivers. “The surrounding people and landscape have allowed me to form a unique vision for storytelling.” While growing up, he found himself well traveled at an early age. “Being exposed to a diverse array of cultures inhibited my desire to create raw, deep, and truthful stories.” His personal passions began with a multitude of sports activities and exercise of the mind. From there, he developed a passion for filmmaking as a young man, writing his first feature film script at age sixteen. He felt obligated to experience anything and everything attempting to avoid a bias opinion.“ Film is the constant guiding point of my life.” To Royce, it is the ultimate art form. He believes film is a powerful medium confined only to the mind of the maker. Royce strongly believes that with film anything is possible. He hopes his future visions can inspire and produce intrinsic catharsis throughout society. With never-ending motivation, Royce find fulfillment through filmmaking. Following his writing desires, Royce plans to continue exploring his storytelling ambitions. He hopes to soon be on set working in and amongst the environment in which he feels most comfortable. With a few good tales up his sleeve, Royce has optimistic views about the future.

Ground Breaker Questionnaire
How did you hear about HATCH?
I heard about HATCH from the wonderful opportunities and experiences of years past. I decided to enjoy the event myself in 2006. Ever since, it has been one of my college dreams to participate in Groundbreakers.
I feel privileged to be a part of not only a great festival, but a great career experience.
Why did you submit your film to HATCH?
One, for the simple reason that it is the only place where a twenty year old could sit down with grand slam industry professionals and hash out the future of visual storytelling. Two, never in any business I've worked in, were the crowned elders so kind, caring, thoughtful, and eager to listen.
If you are aware of our mentorship program, how do you feel about it?
It is THE REASON to attend HATCHfest. Nowhere else will one get a chance like this.
What was your inspiration in making the film?
For me, the inner emotions we all keep trapped away from our daily selves, can only mean one thing. They must escape. And I hope to evict that emotional response in all the stories I tell, whether they be tragic, action, thriller, or romance. My story revolves around the choices we make and how they step into 'another mans shoes.'
Who is your mentor?
Because of Hatch, the list runs too long. . .
Why did you choose to pursue film?
For me, film is the constant guiding point of my life. It is the ultimate art form, confined only to the mind of the maker. I do not know where or when this guide set foot in my life. . . but I know it has been there for a long time, and will not remit its constant energy within me.
